J\unitrack output shaft

#1 PostAuthor: Robw » Tue Nov 08, 2022 6:14 pm

Hi all, due to a snapped front sprocket bolt on my Lawson (J engine), I am going to have to replace the output shaft. I have a unitack\z1100r output shaft with the nut retaining the front sprocket. Are they interchangeable?

The output shaft is the same on all 1981 and beyond "J" and Gpz engines, 1000cc and above, see the link below.

Too many bikes to list.

Hi, it looks like the shafts aren't interchangeable as a complete unit. All the part numbers match on each shaft apart from 3rd and top. Having measured the teeth, the 1100r has wider gear teeth, probably to improve durability.

The bare shafts interchange but the unitrack gears are a larger tooth form so won't mesh with the J gears.
The J gears fit the Uni shaft and vice versa etc etc..
I thought of stating that in my first reply but your question seemed to imply it was just the bare shaft you had and wanted to change not the whole output gear cluster.

Hi, poor explanations on my account. Hopefully I can either get another shaft or swap the two offending gears over.

Just swap all the J gears onto the gpz shaft.

The problem I have is removing the large bearing, if it wasn't for that it would be a very easy job. I imagine that is very tight on the shaft.
