A couple of questions
Can you re chrome exhausts?
And I assume it’s ok the do a build using after market parts or do you try and find original parts?

You sure can, you can re chrome most parts, if its an original exhaust and a re build thats going back to stock make sure they dont polish off any identification stamps on the metal, this will devalue the part and the bike because of it. If the bike has all its original parts and they are ok to save then go that way, it will cost just about the same as buying new but will lack the pedigree of the original. Smaller less important parts like rubbers and the like then pattern parts are readily available. Is this for that Z900? Did you buy it?
Angus.

Too many bikes to list.

Dave, not sure where you are in Kent but if you need chroming done go see Ian at Colmar in Borough green.
He works mostly on top end car resto's but likes to fill the tank spare space with smaller bits of bikes. He does proper double and triple plating and will take care to not obliterate part numbers etc.

What is the present condition of the pipes, ie is it 'just' chroming they need or are there any holes, dents, swelling around the baffle plates etc?...

Add chroming costs to any repairs like the above and it may be easier/cheaper to just buy the pattern sets from Z power which look just as good as the originals.
