Inline fuel Tap reccomendations.

#1 PostAuthor: warren3200gt » Sat Aug 06, 2022 5:40 pm

Back story, modified 1000j2 running bored out Vm26 carbs, Gpz1100 top end.
Downside is original fuel tap will foul the carbs due to position its located on the tank.
Options, move the tap but the tank is painted so not keen or alternatively use an inline fuel tap and make up a feed plate to fit the original tank tap holes. Only downside would be no reserve tap position unless I use one tap as main and a second as reserve with a Y pipe junction after the taps although it has a fuel guage so not the end of the world.
Anyone know of an inline tap that a) doesn't leak and b) has mount points?
I have the original carbs but would rather use the vm's.

Would 4 of something along these lines get you anywhere useful?

Good shout Al, lateral thinking, I like it. I'll have to have a measure up tomorrow to see how far backward I would need to move the carbs.

This is my inline tap. Been using it for 6 years now and no leaks. Think it came from screwfix plumbing section.
I had converted the fuel sender hole to be a second outlet!!!

That looks like the kinda tap used to isolate water supply to a washing machine. I guess they need to be reliable as they are pretty inaccesable behind the washing machine.

Thinking about your previous suggestion, what are the downsides to extending the inlet track?

Put another rear tank rubber trimmed and glued to the one fitted into the frame. Raises the tank enough for a pingel with cr33's fitted to the engine. Might work for yours.

Yes its a water fitting, but as i said, no leaks or even a dribble for six years now.
There are also 'dry breaks' which dont leak or dribble but they dont exactly match the definition of tap although you stop flow by dis-connecting them.
Dont buy cheap ones!

Thanks for the suggestions guys. This is the sort of simplicity I was envisioning. Mayby 2 of them for main and reserve. And just a twin outlet blanking plate for the existing tap hole.

If youre making a twin outlet feed from the existing oval tap hole you can still incorporate a filter of sorts. This is just fine brass gauze, soft soldered together and onto the piece of brake line.
