Torque setting for change drum bolt with spring and ball in

Hi am looking for the Torque setting for change drum bolt with spring and ball in as I have managed to strip out the thread and don’t want to repeat after I get it repaired and does any one now what this bolt is called and the part number out of interest because not sure I can find in the parts book

Hello Shaggy,
According to the torque table in my workshop manual is states -
Drum positioning bolt 44 to 57 ft-lbs
I recently installed one on my rebuild and set the torque wrench at 50 ft-lbs with no problems

That’s what I did mine up too and stripped the thread?

I might be talking out of my hat here because i dont know the early engines but the Z900 manual shows a differnt 'bolt' (two stage bolt with spring and ball) in the aluminium boss you have pictured. This 'two stage bolt' appears to have a fine thread and the bolt (single head you have pictured) appears to have a coarse thread. The manual pictures are ambiguous but is it possible that you have the wrong bolt in there which caused the thread to strip??

CORRECT ! The neutral detent that belongs in that threaded boss is this two piece fine threaded assembly with a torpedo type plunger and not a ball bearing.

The coarse threaded ball detent pictured is the wrong bolt and is actually the filter bypass valve which screws into the top of the filter housing.
