Hi my back brake plate brake stay bolt does not want to come out don’t want to use a big hammer on it as don’t want to break the casting am soaking it in wd40
Any ideas

WD40, unless it's their specific penetrating oil, isn't a penetrating oil, i's a water dispersant, hence the WD, you may as well use diesel, it's a light oil. Soak in a real penetrating oil or make your own using 50% AFT and 50% Acetone.

it is an area prone to road salt ingress, and it is 1 different metals ( steel and aluminium) so there will be corrosion/ oxidisation/ electrolysis going on. Once you remove it by penetrating oil/ heat and cold cycles/ gentle hammering on the bolt ( use a nut on the bolt to protect the threads and support the brake backplate casting eg on top of a vice with the jaws 14mm open) then use waterproof grease on the bolt shaft and its hole to prevent it happening again

If you'd rather have penetrating oil in a tin rather than home-brewed I'd recommend Plusgas. Works a treat on most stuff - give everything a good long soak, then as already mentioned a bit of heat, patience and some creative swearing

Hi.
Plusgas and a bit of heat usually does the trick. Always use single hex sockets. After any disassembly always use a release agent on the threads/shank on assy to prevent future issues [ unless thread lock recommended ]. Alloy fitting holes should be cleaned and threads cleaned with a tap if heavily corroded.

Used some plus gas overnight and a small hammer now done
