When I set up my Dyna s ignition put on correct mark moved till test bub lit up weakly turning the cam made it brighter
My question should I have set it so that light just lights when I turn the advancer as my down pipes seem to be colouring up as engine warms up running

With the light set up on the 1-4 coil, HOLD the rotor in the fully advanced position and rotate the crankshaft until the light comes on....this should be on or as near as dammit to the 1-4 F mark. If not, adjust the backplate and try again.
Move light to 2-3 coil and repeat...if light doesn't come on at 2-3 F mark adjust the RH pickup and try again.
Not trying to teach you to suck eggs but it worked for me last week.
Would pipes colouring up be a lean fuel/air mixture?
Pete

Don't bother with a test light.
Just rest number 4 plug on the head and watch for the spark to crack.
Once set do the same for #3 and you are done.
Colouring of the downpipes means nothing except that they are getting hot unless you have one wildly different to the others.

^^^ This - make sure the rotor is on full advance.
