Ignition problem's

Good Evening Gent's
Has anybody ever had electronic ignition problem's when it wipe's out a module regular as my friend's Z650b
keep's doing it and the bizarre thing is it is alway's 1 and 4 cylinder
He is what i call a Grown Up when it come's to electric's as he's time served and wire's Furnace's etc and has
sorted that many issue's on every creed of bike for me and fully rewired some so for him to be struggling is
hard for me to believe , all suggestion's welcome

is the battery in good health? Electronic ignition doesn't like duff ones as I eventually found out

Thank's for reply John , we put a new on after the original Dyna failed as i have also had that same problem

Which make of ignition is it? Dyna, boyer, khi of a later 650 or summit else?

First was a Dyns S which had been on a good while but not big miles so he borrowed my spare Dyna S oops
went same way but quickly , he has checked everything electrically and it has just been running one of the
Chinese copies DS2 500miles or so to work and back now it's done it again

Hi Bill, Is the feed to the coils standard or via the Wired George MOD ?. I've read this can mess up the Dyna system

Charging system is the likely suspect and also faulty or incorrect coils.

Hey up KZ900 he has indeed done the wired george mod i will tell him to revert back and see how it goes

defo recheck as for coil's what do you recomend to use as i alway's just put cheap generic one's on mine

With the Dyna ignition i always use the Dyna coils as you get a much stronger spark, 35k volts, much easier starting with more power and MPG throughout as there is less spark suppression.
They recommend only using their coils ( as they would ) with the green 3 ohm for racing and black 5 ohm for road but everyone just runs the green 3 ohm anyway .
Never run less than 3 ohms or leave the ign on stationary for more than five mins or so as you risk coil damage.
The black 5 ohm run a little cooler and are supposed to last longer because of this at the expense of a slightly weaker spark but they still kick out more than the stock coils.
I just run the green on all mine, the oldest set being on my everyday Z1R which has been running happily for about 23 years.

that would have been down to a charging problem or leaving the ignition & kill switch on for long periods

I have never done the wired george mod. As if you make sure your std stuff is working correctly you get enough volts to the coils.
Have run 3ohm green dynas and std 3 ohm coils with dyna s for years with the only failures being due to the bike hitting the deck.

This does more damage than it gets credit for .....just sayin

Plus 1 on the get rid of the Weird George mod, check charging system also.
