Z900 bodywork on a Z1000A1?
Quick question, will the tank and side panels from a Z900 fit a Z1000A1 without any mods? I know the fuel tap might be different, but that's ok.
Re: Z900 bodywork on a Z1000A1?
One of the side panels is different.
The right hand one, the bottom mount is lower and visible on the Z1000

The right hand panel will fit if you get a small bracket bolted to the battery box.
But, I think the two tanks have slightly different widths where they slide on to the mounting rubbers. I can't remember which is narrower one but there is no doubt a way to fudge it.

I see Zed people.

Thanks for the info, just bought a Z1000A1 frame for a future project, and think the Z900 side panels are better looking than those of the Z1000. I'm sure I can make them fit somehow. I was in the market to buy a rough 'restoration project' from Ebay but prices are still v high.
Re: Z900 bodywork on a Z1000A1?
A z900 tank will fit a z1000. A Z1 tank will also fit a z1000, and the other way round as well. The Z900B and Z1000B (ltd models) have a different size tank

Re: Z900 bodywork on a Z1000A1?
With import duty and taxes will probably be no cheaper than the similar tank available from Z Power.. that is listed as for the Z900, not the Z1000 as well, hence my question.
Re: Z900 bodywork on a Z1000A1?
The design of the KZ900/KZ1000 tanks differ from the Z1 tanks in a couple of ways. The welded seam underneath the tank is to the inside of the petcock mount, and the fuel cap mount only accepts the locking gas cap. This tank will fit perfectly on the Z1 (1973-1975), but you must use the locking gas cap.

I read from this statement that you think the early Z1 Z1A and Z1B side panels look better than the Z1000A ones?
As the Z900 are pretty much identical to the Z1000A except for the one mounting lug.

Yep, I'm starting with just the frame and an empty set of cases, so when it comes to the build, can make any change I want.
